Pigtronix Gas Giant Fuzz – ’70s Style, plus Noise Gate
Inspired by early 1970s New York City fuzz tones
The Pigtronix Gas Giant Jumbo Fuzz is the pedal company’s latest stompbox. It offers players an analog fuzz circuit with multiple voice options and a built-in noise gate.
Pigtronix Gas Giant
For all you fuzz box addicts, the new Pigtronix Gas Giant comes in a solid red enclosure and looks very modern aesthetically.
This new pedal, inspired by the legendary transistor-based fuzz pedals of early 1970s New York City, has a vintage voice (I’m sure you can all guess which ‘Big’ fuzz pedals).
Sweet Fuzz Tones
The Gas Giant aims to capture the elusive “sweet spot” of those vintage units but with modern consistency. This is achieved through meticulously quad-matched transistor sets, ensuring each pedal delivers optimal performance.
Dual Function Tone
Beyond the standard Gain and Volume controls, the Gas Giant boasts a versatile dual-function Tone knob. Set the rocker switch/button to Scoop or Bump to explore the two distinct voice options.
This feature allows players to switch between the classic heavy bass, searing top-end, and midrange scoop found in vintage pedals, and a unique Pigtronix “Bump” setting, which pushes the midrange forward for a distinct tonal character.
This flexibility provides a wide range of gargantuan fuzz tones, all within a compact, three-knob design.
Gated
One of the standout features of the Gas Giant is its integrated, switchable noise gate. It uses high-speed FET circuitry; this gate effectively eliminates the white noise inherent in high-gain fuzz circuits.
Adapted from the design in Pigtronix’s Gatekeeper, the noise gate is specifically tuned for this pedal. It works seamlessly with a variety of guitar pickups without requiring any external adjustments.
Modern Fuzz
Designed for the modern musician, the Gas Giant features true bypass switching and top-mounted jacks. It operates on standard 9VDC power and maintains a pedalboard-friendly current draw of under 100mA.
If you like Big Muffs or bands like the Smashing Pumpkins or Dinosaur Jr., you’ll appreciate this new pedal.
