Pittsburgh Modular Taiga Keyboard: The Wild Cat Unleashed!
Building on the success of the desktop version, Pittsburgh Modular release the Taiga Keyboard into the wild with the hope of a similar roaring success!
Taiga Keyboard – Building On Success
It’s been a little over a year since Pittsburgh Modular introduced its Taiga desktop synthesizer. It was an instant hit and has received numerous plaudits. It’s clever use of waveshaping and their renowned filter made the Taiga a hugely interesting synth.
Furthermore, the Dynamics Controller adds a whole new way of playing with the sound of Taiga as it manages both amplitude and harmonic content. In doing so, it can add additional definition and dimension to Taiga’s voice.
But by adding a keyboard, has Pittsburgh Modular betrayed its roots? Of course not! Not at all. By utilising a larger form factor, they have managed to do so much more. Taiga Keyboard, like its desktop forebear, is completely modular. The 64 patch points are now on the top. This means no trailing spaghetti over the interface or keys.
Make Sure You Check Under the Hood!
They’ve also been able to make that interface larger and better laid out. The UI design is still very practical and pretty. But lo, what is that panel to the right? Why, ’tis a cover plate that, when removed, reveals 24hp of Eurorack space!
So besides being a fully modular keyboard synth, it is also a modular host for whatever module/s you see fit to add. This is an incredibly clever feature that will appeal to existing modular fans and may well create new ones in the process!
Pittsburgh Modular’s Taiga Keyboard sees the company putting each foot either side of the keyboard synth/Eurorack Modular divide and does so elegantly and emphatically.
