The Plugin Alliance Vertigo VSS-2 channel strip is a plugin that combines elements from some of Vertigo Sound’s revered hardware processors.
If you aren’t familiar with Vertigo Sound, the German manufacturer specializes in no-compromise high-end audio hardware for recording, mixing, and mastering. Luckily for those who don’t have the budget for their drool-worthy hardware, Vertigo Sound has a collaboration with Plugin Alliance that makes these amazing processors available in your DAW.

One such example is the new VSS-2, a powerful channel strip plugin that uses selected modules from Vertigo Sound’s impressive hand-wired hardware line. Starting with the EQ, the VSS-2 uses filters modelled on the VSE-2 discrete Gyrator EQ, while the EQ section is borrowed from the VSE-4 EQ plugin.
For compression, you have a dynamics section modelled on the VSC-3 quad VCA compressor while saturation section offers triode and pentode saturation from the 1950s W. Frank Custom Tube Desk. With a serious range of tonal and structural signal processing, the VSS-2 can be used in a wide variety of situations.
You start by setting your frequency range with the filters, and then you can choose which module you’d like in the signal path next. Overall, there are some useful features, such as the compressor’s internal sidechain filter and the saturator’s wet/dry mix control. This makes it possible to use the VSS-2 plugin on individual instruments and channel groups.
