Positive Grid Authentic Hendrix pack for BIAS FX 2 and Spark gets an official release date
Are you virtually experienced?
The new Positive Grid Authentic Hendrix pack for BIAS FX 2 and Spark finally has an official release date. Expected on 14 October 2021, it’s the latest recreation of Jimi’s equipment featuring amps, effects and even virtual guitars for you to play through.
Positive Grid Authentic Hendrix
The Positive Grid Authentic Hendrix pack is due out next week and promises to give you Jimi’s guitar rig in a virtual format. You can get the pack for your DAW via BIAS FX2, or add it to your Spark desktop amp setup.
Virtual Hendrix Slight Return?
This isn’t the first virtual emulation of Hendrix’s gear though. IK Multimedia did a similar software pack for AmpliTube a few years back, which is still in production, called the Jimi Hendrix Anniversary Collection. So it would be interesting to see how this new version compares.
Jimi’s Amps and FX
The Positive Grid bundle includes models of Marshall, Sunn and Fender amps that Jimi used in the studio with Eddie Kramer, and live when out on tour. Of course, you get all his favourite effects pedals modelled, including Roger Mayer’s Axis Fuzz, the Dallas-Arbiter Fuzz Face, Tone Benders, octave fuzz, a Uni-Vibe, and loads of wah pedals.
Guitar Matching
The interesting aspect for some players could be the Guitar Match feature, which attempts to digitally transform your guitar into one of Jimi’s. You can choose the famous Monterey Fender Stratocaster, which is hopefully modelled as it was before he set it on fire and smashed seven bells of s**t out of it!
Preset Hendrix Tones
The package also includes preset song patches that replicate your favourite Hendrix tracks. I think this could be a good starting point for many players, who can then further tweak the settings to taste. Or, on the other hand, dissect them to learn how Jimi got his tones in the first place.
Release Date
The Positive Grid Authentic Hendrix collection will be launched on 14 October 2021. You can register your interest using the link below. At the time of writing, Positive Grid has yet to release official pricing for the various incarnations of this software, so we will update you as soon as we know more.
However, if you want to hear a glimpse of the new pack, YouTuber Sophie Burrell has posted a collaboration video with Positive Grid on her channel. It should give you an idea of what to expect on release.
