Prince’s Legendary Gear Under the Hammer: OB-8, Amek Mixer and Cloud Guitar – Who Wants to Bid?
Prince memorabilia for sale
Attention Prince fans: several legendary instruments from the musician’s collection are currently up for auction. These include an Oberheim OB-8 synthesizer and an Amek mixing desk, both of which were instrumental in the production of classics such as ‘Purple Rain’ and ‘Dirty Mind’. The OB-8 is from the personal collection of Matt ‘Dr’ Fink, a member of Prince’s band The Revolution. The Schecter Cloud guitar that Prince used on tour will also be auctioned. The first auction will take place here at PropstoreAuction until 17th November and you can dream about the guitar here at RR Auction until 22nd November. There will definitely be no Black Friday sale!
A Piece of Prince Music History up for Auction?
The Oberheim OB-8 was a central component of Prince’s sound and was used on numerous studio recordings. With eight-note polyphony and a wide range of sound design options, it definitely represents the best of analogue synthesizer technology in the 1980s. It helped shape the sound of legendary albums such as Sign o’ the Times and Parade. The Amek mixing console, also from Dr Fink’s collection, was an important part of the recording and production process for Dirty Mind. Both units bear the marks of extensive use by Prince and his band. And now you can own them!
Another highlight of the auction is the legendary Cloud guitar, which the multi-instrumentalist often used as a warm-up instrument. This particular Schecter ‘Diamond Series’ guitar was custom made for Prince and is one of his former bodyguard’s tour souvenirs. The guitar was never sold commercially and is considered a rarity by collectors and fans. A real gem.
Unique Auction Opportunity
These auctions are not only an opportunity to acquire a piece of musical history, but also a tribute to the creative diversity and musical influence of one of the most influential musician of the past and present. Naturally, the prices for these exclusive instruments are very high, but the interest from collectors is enormous. The minimum bid for the guitar is already around $45,000 and it is expected that the price will rise significantly to $60,000.

One response to “Prince’s Legendary Gear Under the Hammer: OB-8, Amek Mixer and Cloud Guitar – Who Wants to Bid?”
I think this is really good on one hand, some legendary gear circulating into the wild for collectors and enthusiast all over the world.
However a number of my colleagues are really sad because it looks like the security guard and Dr. Fink are all hurting for money. These instruments are not coming out of Princes collection at Paisley Park or he had when he was alive. These are pieces of Gear allegedly used by prince and somehow ended up in the hands of these people and then decades later are being sold. So it’s a little dicey situation.
