Every October, PRS presents updates to its series. This year, the PRS CE 24-08 Limited Edition has two new models in its lineup that are visually special. But the inner values are not to be sneezed at either.
PRS CE 24-08 Limited Edition: Black Limba and Swamp Ash
The PRS CE 24-08 Limited Edition comes in two models: Black Limba and Swamp Ash. Black Limba is a tonewood used in many premium Fodera guitars. It’s also used in a not-exactly-inexpensive PRS Private Stock guitar.
The PRS CE 24-08 Limited Edition isn’t exactly entry-level in terms of price, too, but the Black Limba edition in this series is more affordable. There are also six models with swamp ash bodies in different colors: Vintage Natural, Red Apple Metallic, Metallic Midnight (wow!), McCarthy Tobacco Sunburst, Frost Blue Metallic (double wow!), and Pearl White.
All seven models share the same bolt-on maple neck (Pattern Thin profile), rosewood fretboard (25″ scale length), and PRS-typical bird inlays. 24 frets allow for easy arpeggios even in the highest notes.
Coil-Tap Humbuckers
The PRS CE 24-08 Limited Edition is no slouch when it comes to hardware and electronics, either. It features a patented PRS tremolo and PRS locking tuners—all in a nickel look—fancy stuff! Each model also comes with two humbuckers.
In this case, it’s one PRS 85/15 treble humbucker and one PRS 85/15 bass humbucker. One global volume and one global tone control help you set the guitar’s tonality. And you can combine and switch between the pickups using a three-way switch. There are also two mini-toggles between the two controls for volume and tone to turn each humbucker Gibson style into single-coil sounds via coil tapping.
Price and availability of the PRS CE 24-08 Limited Edition
The six Swamp Ash models of the PRS CE 24-08 Limited Edition all cost 2,249 euros at Thomann*, and a PRS Premium Gig bag is included in the delivery.
The model with Black Limba is even a little cheaper despite the precious wood type. At Thomann* the guitar costs 2,149 euros, also including PRS Premium Gigbag . All guitars in the series are “Made in USA”!
