PRS Private Stock Modern Eagle V Limited: Soaring to new heights?
The fifth incarnation of the Modern Eagle has landed
PRS’s premium Modern Eagle guitar has reached its fifth iteration. And it’s a beauty, with opulent aesthetics and top-rate specifications. Only 120 will be made available worldwide.
PRS Private Stock Modern Eagle V
The new Private Stock Modern Eagle V Limited has a mahogany body with a curly maple top in a high gloss nitrocellulose finish, a curly maple neck with a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and solid shell ripple Abalone Birds. So nothing but top quality tone woods on this bird! Mr Paul Reed Smith commented,
“Modern Eagle models have always been designed to stand up to history while celebrating tonewoods and the discovery of new tones. These instruments are the embodiment of that tradition married with the bold innovation of Private Stock and a new pickup system.”
All the switches!
This model incorporates two TCI humbucking pickups in a hum/single/hum (five-coil) pickup configuration with a Narrow PRS Singlecoil in the middle. There are two paired mini-toggle switches to separate the slug-side coils, turning both the humbuckers into true, TCI-tuned single coils. The push/pull on the guitar’s tone control activates both humbuckers, so you could have all three pickups on at once if you so desired.
Plus you get a a third mini-toggle that changes the volume pot value from 500k (humbucking guitars for brighter output) to 250k (single-coil guitars for slightly darker output). This then allows you to fine-tune your pickup output in each setting. I’d probably get confused with all the switches myself, but it’s nice to have all these options.
Hardware
The guitar comes with the Smoked Black PRS Gen III Tremolo with locking saddles and Phase III tuners with Brazilian Rosewood buttons.
I am sure these won’t be cheap, as they are all Private Stock instruments. But expect the best with this new version of the Modern Eagle. I think this model is a new peak in modern guitar design. You can hear it in action, with all those switching options, in the official PRS video below.
