PRS S2 Series updated with USA pickups for 2024
The PRS S2 Series of guitars has had a massive update for 2024. They now come standard with USA pickups and electronics.
PRS S2 Series 2024
The American-made PRS S2 line has been upgraded for 2024. The S2 guitars are all built in Stevensville, Maryland. The “Stevensville 2,” or S2 Series, was named after the second manufacturing line created inside the PRS Stevensville, Maryland shop in 2013.
They have always used the same import pickups as the more affordable PRS SE line. Today, PRS announced that the S2 line will now come as standard with the same US pickups and electronics as the core line of guitars.
USA Upgrade
It is a significant upgrade that many guitar fans will be pleased about.
“We’ve made great progress with our pickups recently, and it’s the right time to bring that to the S2 Series” – Paul Reed Smith.
Custom 24 to Vela
The S2 lineup includes the ever-popular Custom 24 and McCarty 594 models and S2 exclusive models like the Vela, Standard 22, and McCarty 594 Thinline. This 2024 update means S2 guitars are now equipped with US-made 85/15, 58/15 LT, Narrowfield, and TCI pickups.
Verdict
They also feature nitrocellulose finishes as standard, so the whole range is getting very close to the specifications of the US Core line, but for less money—a significant update for 2024. This latest pickup upgrade from PRS is going to be popular.

This pisses me off. I bought an S2 McCarty in 2022 and the Asian pickups were downplayed in the information. They sounded like mud so i replaced them with American 85/15s. While this is great for new buyers, people who have already bought S2 guitars are basically screwed. Will not be buying anymore PRS guitars.
The PRS S2 series has always been my dream. I will try to work hard to have enough money to buy it.
I like my 2022 Vela. The original pickups suit the guitar, no matter where they were manufactured. Glad PRS has found a way to revitalize interest to increase prices. “Made in USA”is definitely attractive, It does not make me feel like the guitar I love is suddenly bad. I never cared about the bird in flight markers and still love my ‘22 Vela. Don’t buy the hype.
