PRS SE 2025: Limited Editions With Beautiful Colors
New additions to Custom 24/08, McCarty and Custom 24!
There’s a new addition to Paul Reed-Smith’s entry-level Student Edition (SE) range. Six models are being launched today as part of the PRS SE 2025 release, each more stylish than the next. And some of them are limited to just 500 pieces worldwide – so be quick!
PRS SE 2025: Two New Custom 24/08 Models
Let’s start with these two new models from the Custom 24/08 series. In terms of woods, the manufacturer has opted for a mahogany body with a maple top and a veneer in an exciting swamp ash burl look. The neck (Wide Thin profile) is made of maple, while the fretboard is made of rosewood.

As the name suggests, there are 24 frets on a 25-inch scale – of course with the typical PRS bird inlays. The pickups are two PRS TCI “S” humbuckers with global controls for volume and tone (including push/pull functionality). A three-way switch changes and combines the pickups, while two separate mini switches activate the coil split for each pickup. In terms of hardware, PRS uses a PRS-patented tremolo and PRS-designed tuners.

Both models are limited to 1250 units each worldwide. You can get the colors Lake Blue Midnight Burst* and Charcoal Cherry Midnight Burst* for 1,199 euros each from Thomann. A PRS gig bag is included.

Custom 24 Burled Ash: Lake Blue and Natural
In addition, we get two now models from the Custom 24 in Burl Ash series as part of the PR SE 2025 release. These Strat-style models are both limited to just 500 models worldwide. The woods are similar to the Custom 24/08 models: mahogany body, maple top with swamp ash veneer, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard.

Bird inlays, 24 frets, 25 inch scale length – all familiar features. However, PRS has opted for two different pickups here: 85/15 “S” humbucker in bridge and neck position. The hardware is the same: a PRS-patented tremolo and PRS tuners, only the mini switches for coil splitting are missing. Three-way switches and global controls for volume and tone (also with push/pull functionality) are also included.

In terms of finishes, PRS has opted for the Lake Blue* and Natural* versions for this series. Each model of this PRS SE 2025 guitar costs 1,099 euros at Thomann. A gig bag is included with each one as well.

SE McCarty: Two PRS SE 2025 Models With 22 Frets
For those of us who like it a bit more rounded tone and who don’t necessarily have to reach tinnitus heights in their solos, guitars with 22 frets might be more interesting. The shorter fretboard also changes the distance between the two pickups. This way, the bridge pickup sounds rounder and more powerful.

The DGT McCarty model is limited to 1000 in a noble Tobacco Sunburst Exotic. Mahogany body, maple top with Laurel Burl veneer, neck also made of mahogany (DGT profile), 22 frets and of course birds inlays. The pickups at the bridge and neck are also from the DGT series, and both have separate volume controls in addition to the global tone control. The model costs €1,199 at Thomann*.

The last model of today’s release, the PRS SE McCarty 594 Laurel Burl Limited Edition, has a similar vintage look. Here, the finish is called Vintage Sunburst. In terms of woods, it is similar to the other McCarty model. However, a slightly shorter scale length (625 mm instead of 635 mm), a different neck profile (Pattern Vintage) and the two 85/15 “S” humbuckers make all the difference. Each pickup also has its own volume and tone controls. You can get this guitar for €1,199 from Thomann*.
