PRS SE Exotic Tops announced as limited edition for 2017
A new limited run of SE guitars all with unique tops
PRS has just introduced an ‘Exotic Top’ option for its SE range of guitars, following on from another announcement earlier this week about a limited edition that features reclaimed woods. We now have some more interesting woods available for the popular, wallet-friendly SE guitar series.
Exotic
The following models will all be available for a short time with exotic wood top variations – SE 245, SE 277 Semi-hollow soapbar, SE Custom 22 Semi-hollow, SE Custom 24, SE Custom 24 Floyd and the Tremonti Custom.
The announcement came earlier today on the PRS Europe site, which lists the above models but as yet say anything about production numbers or how long they will be available for.
Each guitar will be available in either Zebra Wood or a ‘random dark wild figure’ of Ebony, Spalted Maple or Quilted Swamp Ash. Contrary to popular expectation, the Ebony top is actually a more natural-figured one, so don’t expect it to be near jet black. A few of the models will also come with tortoiseshell binding as well, but the PRS website currently has no details about which models will feature this upgrade. No prices have been announced yet, either.
PRS SE have done limited runs using Spalted Maple in the past and these guitars have proven to be a popular choice. I think it is great to have some choice and as an owner of three PRS SE models, I can vouch that they are great guitars and won’t set you back the earth.
