Following his interview with influencer, Jesea Lee, Finn Mckenty aka Punk Rock MBA has seen more backlash than Metallica’s acoustic records.

As a YouTube journalist, Mckenty launched The Punk Rock MBA channel in 2015 and soon grew to become a household name within the global online music community. The channel covered a wide scope of music content, ranging from legacy deep dives to covering current bands in the punk and hardcore scene.

In his interview, which sparked an endless series of reaction videos as well as a swarm of comments, Mckenty outlined his reasons for building the Punk Rock MBA YouTube channel and his move away from content creation this year.

A few comments he made rubbed people the wrong way, as he stated that he dissolved the project because he’d achieved his “financial goals” with the channel and he had “no interest in music” whatsoever in the first place.

Mckenty also described his early career in advertising as a product designer where he felt somewhat unfulfilled. Although he was respected for his work and had been involved in projects with the likes of Nike and Procter & Gamble, he still wasn’t known throughout his industry as a major player.

Perhaps he saw YouTube as a way to build a public brand for himself, which he certainly did. However, the disdain he expressed for his followers within the YouTube community was frightfully evident in the interview, where he described them as “smooth brained“.

His goal now is to pivot into brand consultancy using LinkedIn as his primary platform, where one can only hope that the brands and professionals he seeks to work with have not seen this rather callous interview.

Overall, Mckenty’s exit from the YouTube sphere has divided opinions, with many appauled commenters who saw it as a betrayal of some sort, as well as those who felt he was well within his rights to create a music channel for financial gain alone.

I met Finn last year through a mutual friend and we ended up meeting for dinner one night. He told me his favourite band was Fallout Boy. He also gave me a kiss at the end of the night. Nice guy

True (love of) Music is, has been and always will be about more than just money. It changes people’s lives. It heals, it enlightens…It connects. It’s the soundtrack of our lives!
I haven’t watched the interview and neither did I know of this punk channel but it seems evident we are dealing with a narcissist and overall hypocrite, so be grateful you now the truth and move on. Linkedin has got to be the corporate world’s Tinder so good riddance to this sad faker…
