Radial North-Star Overdrive and Power Booster: Drive with a twang!
A new ToneBone for all your Country guitar needs
The new Radial North-Star Overdrive and Power Booster pedal is the latest model in the Canadian company’s series of compact drive pedals. This new addition has a hint of modern Country twang to it that should make for an interesting variation on the Tonebone theme.
Class A
The North-Star is a Class A circuit with up to 24 dB of clean gain on tap, marking a departure from the rest of the range. This unit is aimed at modern Country players, for whom this clean gain will come in very handy. Radial also say that the North-Star has the ability to get dirty, too, going from ‘subtle chunk to singing distortion’.
The circuit is, of course, true-bypass and so will not interfere with your guitar’s tone when not engaged. They have also fitted it with a handy effects loop which engages when the clean boost is kicked in. This means you can add a touch of delay or reverb with your clean boost, which I would imagine could be really useful in a live scenario, as you can engage both at once.
Country
Okay, so Country music is nowhere near as popular in Europe as it is on the other side of the Atlantic. But this might still be a pedal to check out, as a unit that offers 24 dB of boost and incorporates an effect loop might be something versatile enough to appeal to guitarist in a live scenarios.
