Reason 10 Intro: The new entry level synth-rack DAW from Propellerheads
Propellerhead has unexpectedly replaced Reason Essentials with a new version 10 updated version called Reason 10 Intro.
Reason 10 Intro
You don’t get all the goodies from the latest full version but you are not missing much which makes this a pretty interesting €79 option. The 16 audio and/or instrument tracks do seem a bit limiting but there are plenty of things that you don’t always expect to find in an entry-level DAW.
The stand-out important feature is that Reason 10 Intro supports VST plug-ins. You get time stretch, slicing and pitch editing and all the production tools of the full version. The new Europa synth is there along with old staples such as Thor, Subtractor and ID-8. The drum machines and samplers are all present along with the combinator and all the Player MIDI devices that arrived in version 9.
In fact scanning through the comparison list Reason 10 Intro really only loses a bunch of effects, some instruments, ReWire (although it has Ableton Link) and a large chunk of library.
Key features
The key features are listed as:
- 10 instruments
- 11 effects
- 16 Audio & MIDI tracks
- VST & Rack Extension support
- Player MIDI devices
- Studio-grade mixer
- Professional audio editing
- 2.6 GB sound library
See the link below for the full list of features and included technology.
It’s difficult to find fault with this release. It’s incredibly good value for money and especially with Rack Extension and VST support means that it’s a workable and expandable DAW.
Reason 10 Intro is available now for €79, with an upgrade path to the full version of €269.
