Reverend Billy Corgan Z-One: A new chambered model for a heavier tone
A new guitar to handle the Smashing Pumpkins heavier back-catalogue
Reverend Guitars has announced its third Billy Corgan signature model, called the Z-One. It’s designed to handle the Smashing Pumpkins’ heavier back catalogue. The guitar features a unique chambered body with better upper fret access and is available in two colours.
Billy Corgan Z-One
The new Billy Corgan Z-One features an alder body with two chambered sections hidden under the guitar’s pickguard. His previous two Reverend Guitars signature models, the BC1 and Terz, both used Korina bodies. This new Z-One, however, was specifically designed for a tonal update, one that could handle the heavier tones of the Smashing Pumpkins. The Reverend site mentions tracks such as Geek USA, Quiet, Jellybelly, Zero, and Bodies.
It also has better upper fret access, as the new Z-One body shape features deeper horns, when compared to the previous two signature models. Especially the original BC1. I think it looks a little more balanced now. Plus, it is perfect for extended soloing up the dusty end.
Etched
You still get that roasted maple medium oval profile neck and fingerboard as found on the other models, along with a set of Billy Corgan Z-One bridge, and Billy Corgan Z-One neck Railhammer-style pickups. The pickups have low profile controls for Volume, Tone and a Bass Contour. Both pickups feature etched custom artwork and are fitted to an aluminium pickguard.
Rock Solid
Other appointments include a string-thru body design, a set of stainless steel saddles, a set of Reverend pin-lock tuners, and a Boneite nut. So tuning stability on this guitar should be rock solid. And it should be perfect for the kind of heavy riffs and extended soloing that Corgan is known for.
I will say that I really like the new specifications. And the guitar looks like a nice evolution of Corgan’s standard signature model. The Z-One is available in Metallic Silver Freeze and Midnight Black. Unfortunately, there is no white finish option at the moment.
There’s no official Reverend video yet, though I found a channel on YouTube that has go its hands on one, so you can hear it in action. Just head to the latter part of the video below to hear the guitar.
