Reverend Guitars 2018 Limited Edition Tricky Gomez: Too Limited?
Four cool, vintage vibe semi-hollow models for limited run
Reverend Guitars has just launched the Tricky Gomez LE 2018 a limited-edition model that comes in four unique finishes. But are these runs, well, just a little too “limited”?
Reverend Guitars 2018 Limited Edition Tricky Gomez
This retro-styled model is being issued as a limited production run for 2018. So limited, in fact, that there only 10 guitars are being made with each finish. I think this is a shame, as they look funky and cool.
So what’s the DNA of this 2018 Limited Edition Tricky Gomez model? It comes equipped with a Bigsby B-70 tremolo paired with a roller bridge, which should keep tuning stability. It also has a set of locking tuners and a Boneite nut that will help keep that tuning where you want it. Combined with the roller bridge, the whole system should work together nicely.
Metallic Colours
The Trick Gomez edition is available with either Mulberry Mist top with a metallic red back, a Metallic Alpine top with outfield ivy back, a Deep Sea Blue top with metallic superior blue back or a Venetian Gold Top with root beer metallic back.
All four versions have a satin coat on top, whilst the backs and sides are a metallic finish that complements the main colour scheme. It makes for an interesting look and one that, I think, works quite well on this vintage-inspired instrument. Other features on this limited edition include a Pearloid pickguard with an off-white binding and a “Limited Edition 2018” badge on the back of the headstock.
Semi-Hollow
This guitar has a semi-hollow body made of Korina with a solid maple top, which should be a good combination in terms of the overall tone. The set neck is constructed from three pieces of Korina, is topped with a Blackwood Tek fretboard and loaded with 22 medium-jumbo frets.
Revtron
This guitar comes loaded with Reverend Guitars Revtron neck and bridge pickups, which also have Reverend’s unique bass-contour control wired in line with the more standard volume and tone controls. This set-up provides you with a great alternative to the regular tone control as it gives you more tonal options from a relatively simple system.
Too Limited?
I like the whole look of these models. The hardware set-up is one seems well thought out. I just wish they weren’t quite so limited in their numbers. The colours are really interesting, so I would like to have seen them more readily available.
