Ribn: Looping finger driven modulation of any MIDI parameter from an iOS device
New into the Apple App Store is Ribn, an organic repeating modulation generator that you can run into any MIDI device.
Ribn
It’s a simple concept. You have 8 ribbon controllers (or sliders) which have the ability to record and loop your finger movements. You can create simple LFO’s, or weirdly complex repeating parameter shifting – just with a few strokes of your fingers.
What makes it versatile is that you can assign any MIDI CC number and any MIDI channel to each ribbon. So you are not stuck with controlling one device, you can run it all over the place. You can give yourself some very handy spontaneous control over filters and synth parameters, either hardware or software. You could even run it into Eurorack via a MIDI-to-CV converter and get some serious modulation going in places where you don’t have enough LFOs.
It just comes down to getting MIDI out of your iPhone or iPad. Ribn has the ability to connect up via Wifi to a Mac -just choose “Session 1” as the MIDI output. Otherwise Bluetooth MIDI or an iOS compatible MIDI interface is going to be required.
Ribn is created by Nebosja Petrovic and is available now for the princely sum of $0.99.
