Roland GO:MIXER PRO-X: The audio mixer for smartphones gets an update
Roland has announced the GO:MIXER PRO-X. The popular mixer and audio interface for smartphones gets a couple of new input options and features for all your mobile recording and live streaming needs. Roland says that they’ve also improved compatibility with Android and iOS devices.
Roland GO:MIXER PRO-X
Roland’s GO:MIXER PRO has been a popular solution for mobile recording for a few years now. The device makes it easy to record and/or mix several sound sources simultaneously using an Android or iOS device, such as a microphone, stereo or mono instrument or line level audio sources.
The new generation, which was announced today, follows closely in the footsteps of the original. But Roland has done a bit of adjusting and feature tweaking, to make the new GO:MIXER PRO-X even more versatile for today’s mobile recording and streaming scenarios.
To state the obvious, the device is now black. Apart from this design change, it looks very similar to the previous version. The layout of the knobs and input/output connectors is pretty much the same, but if you look closely, you’ll notice a few changes.
The previous generation’s input for a plug-in power microphone has been removed in favor of a new smartphone I/O connector, which allows you to connect a phone over an analog TRRS cable. You can still connect a headset microphone, however, as this functionality has now been integrated into the headphone output. Besides adding two additional input channels for a total of 11, this configuration makes it easy to use a typical pair of earphones with an integrated mic or a gaming headset with the GO:MIXER PRO-X.
The switch that used to control the Center Cancel function (which appears to have been removed) now lets you activate a PAD for the guitar/bass inputs. If your instrument is too loud compared to the other inputs, this allows for a quick adjustment.
11 inputs and 3 outputs
Other than that, the inputs and outputs remain the same. In addition to the aforementioned smartphone I/O and headphone/headset jacks, the GO:MIXER PRO-X offers one XLR microphone input with phantom power, two 1/4 instrument inputs (L/MONO, R) and two stereo line inputs (1/8”), all of which can be used simultaneously. A loop back switch allows you to jam along to music from your phone, while recording at the same time.
It connects to Android and iOS devices via the USB Micro-B connector. Adapter cables for Lightningand USB-C are included. Roland says that the GO:MIXER PRO-X now supports a wider variety of devices, which is good news for sure.
If USB bus power isn’t an option, you can power the GO:MIXER PRO-X with four AA batteries (Alkaline or rechargeable Ni-MH).
