ROLI has unveiled the ROLI Piano at NAMM 2025. Featuring 49 colorfully illuminated keys, the new keyboard is a larger alternative to the tiny ROLI Piano M. When combined with the Airwave controller and the new Piano AI Assistant, it forms the ROLI Piano System – a complete, AI-enhanced system for learning piano. Has the piano of the future arrived?

When ROLI announced the Airwave controller a few months ago, the manufacturer said that the AI-based system would continue to grow. At NAMM 2025, ROLI unveils a more suitable instrument: the ROLI Piano. After all, who would seriously consider trying to learn piano on the 25-key Piano M (previously LUMI Keys)?

More Information

The new instrument features 49 velocity-sensitive keys with polyphonic aftertouch. The keys detect movement in four dimensions, so the keyboard can double as a versatile MPE controller. As with Piano M, the keys are colorfully illuminated and can display scales, chords, or arpeggios. When combined with the AI assistant, this creates many opportunities for interactive piano lessons.

The keyboard can be paired with the optional Airwave controller, which detects the movements of the hands and fingers using several cameras. This enables an even more accurate analysis of the playing position and fingering. However, you can also use it without Airwave.

The included ROLI Studio Software includes hundreds of presets from pianos to synths to drums, guitars, and more.

The ROLI Piano connects to a computer or tablet via USB-C or Bluetooth. According to ROLI, it’s compatible with all popular DAWs. Thanks to a MIDI output, you can also use it to control hardware synths directly.

ROLI Piano AI Assistant

Along with the new keyboard, ROLI rolls out the Piano AI Assistant. This virtual assistant is an AI-powered system for learning piano. The software not only teaches basic keyboard skills, but also music history and theory. ROLI plans to expand the assistant’s abilities through future updates.

Price and Availability

If you’re quick, you can now pre-order the ROLI Piano from the manufacturer’s website for a “super early-bird” price of $399. This offer only lasts for a couple of days; the regular price will be $599. You can also get it bundled with the Airwave controller ($648 super early-bird / $948 regular price). The manufacturer expects to begin shipping in April 2025.

One response to “ROLI Piano: Is this the Future of the Piano?”

    Diki Ross says:

“Who would try to learn the piano on a 25 note keyboard?” begs the question, who would try to learn the piano on a 49 note keyboard either?

Any competent teacher would admit that most kids (or adults) learning to play would outgrow that range in less than a year, and there you go, needing to buy ANOTHER keyboard when you could have got a 76/73 in the first place (if you absolutely positively refuse to buy an 88 at the same price… plenty out there.

Hate to break it to the bedroom knob twiddler generation, but playing piano takes BOTH hands. You know, just in case you’ve never seen a pianist in real life…
