A red-hot rumour is currently doing the rounds on social media. If it’s true, we could soon be witnessing a new Fender signature model guitar for… none other than Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello! The putative model is based on his famous Fender Aerodyne ‘Soul Power’ Stratocaster. The source? The Instagram channel of Ryan Bruce, a.k.a. Riffs and Beards. Corroborating evidence? None.

Rage Against The Machine

This weekend a photo surfaced of Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine playing what is allegedly a new Fender signature model guitar. If the image is genuine, the guitar is based on Tom’s ‘Soul Power’ Fender Aerodyne Stratocaster, a guitar he modified with an Ibanez Edge trem system, Seymour Duncan rail pickups and a Kill Switch. He used it during his time with Audioslave from 2002 to 2007 on songs including “Cochise”, “Like a Stone”, “Be Yourself” and “Your Time Has Come”.

Guitar Revolution

The photo was distributed via Instagram on the riffsandbeards page, run by YouTube’s Ryan ‘Fluff’ Bruce. Fluff is a well-known guitar reviewer and content creator. He recently worked as a presenter at Tom Morello’s Guitar Revolution workshop. Fluff’s post reads: “Today @tommorello and @fender unveiled the Soul Power signature production model” next to a photo of Tom holding up a Fender guitar emblazoned with “Soul Power”.

Now, obviously that’s not a lot to go on. There’s only one image of Mr Morello and the guitar, with zero details on specifications or corroborating evidence. We have no other sources to confirm this. But a Tom Morello Signature Soul Power model would certainly be a big deal in the guitar world.

Soul Power

The original Soul Power can be seen here at the Met Museum in New York where it has been on display. Is this Fender Tom Morello signature guitar the real deal? If it is genuine, what better time to go public with the new guitar than at NAMM 2020, which begins next week? And: Would you buy one? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Will they come with complimentary Che Guevara posters?

YES… along with a copy of the Communist manifesto, a signed copy of Saul Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals, the right to give away all your wealth to any failing Socialist nation while promising to eat dog and cat food for the rest of your life. Honestly, the only people that care about this useless guitar are the sales and marketing losers at Fender hoping to cash in while RATM are on tour. (why did they bother to tour again? ugh. spare us.)
