Ambient and analog sounds are the theme of Triple Spiral Audio’s Memories Kontakt instrument. The sounds were generated using synthesizers (Behringer Deepmind 12D, Neutron, Model D, Arturia MatrixBrute, Yamaha DX7, Roland JV-1080), creative sampling, and long effects chains.
The 150 available snapshots are divided into Ambiences, Bells, Keys, Distortion, Lo-Fi, Motion, Pads and Synth categories. You can have 55 of these snapshots in reverse from the Memories REV instrument. As an instrument, Memories also offers dual layers, external sample import, and several effects – Imager, Skreamer, Phasis, Flanger, Choral, Flair, Lo-fi, reverb and delay.
Memories contains 1500 samples and 3.71 GB of data. The full version of Kontakt 6.6.1 (or newer) is required for use.
Price: EUR 37.37 (introductory, down from EUR 54)

Massive Gongs is a new collaboration between Edu Prado Sounds and sound designer Jan Pfitzer. Recordings of a 130cm wind gong serve as the basis for a Kontakt instrument focused specifically on creating unusual sounds suitable for film audio and soundscapes.
Two stereo pairs of Neumann microphones were used for recording, along with Chandler REDD.47 and Neve 1073 analog preamps. Jan Pfitzer used four different beaters to strike the gong. The hits are available in five velocity layers. Big strikes like that love being drenched in reverb. To that, the instrument includes convolution and plate reverbs with Attack and Release parameters as well as a ‘pump’ effect which can be toggled. Also available are high and low-pass filters.
The full version of Native Instruments Kontakt (6.7 or newer) is required to use the library which takes up almost 1.7 GB of space.
Price: EUR 33, down from EUR 55. Good until May 15, 2022.

SampleScience Marimba Renaissance is a free virtual instrument derived from “broken” marimbas. There are two versions – Standard and Space. Sound shaping features include multi-LFO, room reverb, high and low pass filters, envelope curves, and three voice modes. The instrument is available in plug-in form (VST, VST3, AU and AAX), as an instrument for Decent Sampler (Linux), and as an instrument for Kontakt 5 and 6. You don’t have to pay anything, but SampleScience really kill it so donations are highly encouraged.
Cinematique Instruments released MOD 20, a Kontakt instrument dedicated to the timeless sounds of the Korg MS-20. Our favorite little Darth Vader synth is captured here in particularly bass heavy form. The instrument is free and a labor of love, but it needs the full version of Kontakt.

Spitfire Audio’s free LABS series welcomed Cello Moods. Here, professional cellist Alice Allen plays four “moods” that you can subtly tweak with a few parameters. The instrument requires the free Spitfire Audio LABS plug-in, which is available in VST2, VST3, AAX, and AU formats for Windows and macOS.
