Shure Celebrates 100th Anniversary

The company was founded in Chicago in 1925 by Sidney N. Shure. Initially, Shure sold radio kits and related components back in the days. In 1932, with the introduction of the Model 33N microphone, the young company became one of the few microphone manufacturers in the United States. Just seven years later, Shure introduced the Unidyne Model 55, the first unidirectional, single diaphragm microphone.

Since then, the company has grown to become one of the largest developers of audio technology. In its 100-year history, Shure has developed more than 50,000 different products. And some of them will be familiar to anyone involved in audio technology.

The Evergreens

Over the past 100 years, the manufacturer has launched a number of products that have almost achieved cult status. Who hasn’t heard of the SM58*, first introduced in 1966 and still in its basic version today? Or the SM7B vocal microphone*, which has become almost a standard in broadcasting, recording and podcasting.
