Signum Audio releases a BUTE of a limiter plug-in
Signum Audio has released the BUTE Limiter plug-in, a new addition to its BUTE Loudness Suite. The company says the new plug-in delivers smooth and transparent audio limiting, while being very easy to use. The BUTE Limiter is available in stereo and surround versions and is touted as being suitable for a wide variety of applications, such as audio mastering, broadcasting, and post production.
It’s evident that the developers have put some thought into the BUTE Limiter’s user interface. It looks sleek and uncluttered, almost minimalist, but displays a lot of useful information. In addition to controls and readings for true peak, threshold and gain reduction, there is a graphical representation of the track with a gain reduction overlay, so you can really see what’s going on. Alternatively, you can switch to a numerical view to minimize the space the plug-in takes up on your screen.
Transparent limiting algorithm
Signum Audio says that the BUTE Limiter is based on a new limiting algorithm with a focus on smooth, transparent audio. Another claim is that this limiter guarantees no true peak overshoots and high quality linear phase upsampling. You can choose from five different release modes, including Linear, Transparent and Pumping. There is also an automatic setting for the release time. The volume of the incoming signal can be adjusted by setting the pre gain.
Stereo and surround versions
The Signum Audio BUTE Limiter is available in stereo and surround versions. The latter includes support for 5.1, 7.1 and up to 10 channel Atmos. The plug-ins are available as 64bit VST / AU / AAX and are compatible with Mac OS X 10.9 or higher and Windows 8.1 or higher.
Both versions are available at special introductory prices until March 19th: £29 +VAT for the stereo version, and £49 +VAT for the surround version. Owners of the Signum Audio BUTE Loudness Suite will receive the BUTE Limiter as a free addition.
