Sire Larry Carlton Collection launched with three new models for under £500!
Top-class instrument for under £500?
Sire has just launched a new “Larry Carlton Collection”, encompassing three new models named for one of fusion’s legends. And the price of these new guitars is quite an eye-opener, too. We also hear that some acoustic models are also in the works…
Three new models
The new Sire Larry Carlton collection of instruments has apparently been around a year in the making. Larry lent the people at Sire some of his favourite guitars, so the story goes, to let them research what made those instruments his preferred tools of choice.
Now first off, this guy is a living legend. Secondly, these guitars look truly amazing. Here in the UK they will each retail for a ridiculously cheap £499 each. I think that’s a pretty insane price point given the specifications on offer here. Let’s take a closer look at each model.
Larry Carlton H7
The new Larry Carlton H7 is a hollow-body instrument designed by Sire in conjunction with Mr Carlton. It comes in a gorgeous Cherry Sunburst finish and has a double-cut laminate maple hollow-body construction, with an ebony fretboard.
The twin humbuckers and electronics have all been designed around Carlton’s preferred voicing, Sire says. All the audio demos I have head online in the last week have been pretty stunning.
RRP – GBP 499
Larry Carlton S-Series
This new S-Series is essentially an ST-style guitar with an HSS pickup configuration. Again, it uses Carlton’s preferred voicing for pickups and electronics. It has a roasted maple neck with rolled fingerboard edges – and even has locking tuners.
The price is even lower than the H7 if you go for the 3-Tone Sunburst or Arctic White versions. It really does look like a bargain at this price point. An extra 50 quid will get you a flame maple top in Trans Blue, Trans Black or Natural finishes.
Features
- Solid-body ST-style
- Roasted Maple neck
- Lacquered fingerboard, satin neck finish
- Rolled fretboard edges
- HSS pickup configuration
- Volume & tone control, 5-way blade switch
- Locking tuners
RRP – GBP 449 or GBP 499 with a flame maple top
Larry Carlton L7
Last up is the new Larry Carlton L7, a singlecut design that comes in a tasty Cherry Sunburst finish. Sire also offers a Goldtop and a Tobacco Burst on this model as well. It has a flamed maple top, a mahogany body and neck as well as an ebony fretboard.
Again, all pickups and electronics are designed to suit Mr Carlton’s tastes. This is a traditional 24.75″ scale length single-cut design. The price is very reasonable indeed.
RRP – GBP 449
Bargain priced instruments?
Sure, these guitars are all under £500, so some aspects of these guitars are built in away that saves manufacturing costs. However, given that Larry Carlton has nevertheless deemed them worthy of bearing name should mean that they will be solid instruments. If the Sire Marcus Miller bass range is anything to go by, then these guitars could be a bargain.
What can I say, I’m impressed! I cannot wait to try these new models out to see if Sire have delivered a quality guitar at this price point. An acoustic guitar series is also in the pipeline, apparently, which I also look forward to.
