Softube brings 4MS Spectral Multiband Resonator to Modular
Softube has snagged another well-known brand and popular module for its software Modular platform. 4MS has licensed and endorsed the virtual Spectral Multiband Resonator (SMR). They claim that it faithfully emulates both the hardware and firmware of the original unit.
All we know is that we’ve got an awesomely fun and fruity new module to play with.
Spectral Multiband Resonator
You can think of it as a 6 band filter bank, or a vocoder, a harmonizer or remixer. It rings and pings, quantizes and scales, sequences and generates CV. It’s deep and versatile and has a wonderfully inviting knob right in the middle asking you to fiddle with it.
The 6 channels of bandpass filters are locked to a twenty note scale spinning around the central knob in a rainbow of colours. They can be swept around their scale either manually or via CV moving from traditional western scales to microtonal whatever you want.
It comes with 75 new presets covering a wide variety of sounds, effects and processes. And the great thing about software is that you can just keep adding more SMR modules to layer up the creativity.
It’s pretty cool although really, the one I’m waiting for is the similar looking Spherical Wavetable Navigator that we saw previewed at Superbooth. Either way it’s great to have 4MS onboard the virtual Modular.
The 4MS Spectral Multiband Resonator is available now for Softube Modular for an introductory price of $39. If you already own Modular you can also get yourself a free 20-day demo to try it out.
