Softube Console 1 Fader: motorized fader controller for Console 1
With the new Console 1 Fader controller, Softube is granting the fans of its Console 1 ecosystem a long-held wish. Console 1 Fader features ten motorized, touch-sensitive Alps faders. Combined with the Console 1 channel strip controller, it forms a complete controller setup for mixing and mastering.
Softube Console 1 Fader
Softube’s Console 1 ecosystem has a lot of fans. And many of them have been wishing for a fader controller for a long time, to supplement the original Console 1 channel strip controller. The wait is over! With the new Console 1 Fader, you can now add a bank of ten motorized faders to your rig, or combine multiple controllers for a bigger setup. This has the potential to greatly improve the mixing workflow with Console 1.
Console 1 Fader features a powder-coated metal enclosure, which weighs around 3 kg and matches the channel strip controller perfectly. It’s more than a hardware controller, though. True to the concept of Console 1, it comes with two software-based, component-modeled console emulations: Tube and Discrete. Of course, it also works with all other plug-ins in the Console 1 ecosystem (which includes UAD plug-ins), but you’ll want to add a channel strip controller for in-depth editing.
Ten motorized 100 mm faders
The 100 mm motorized faders can perform a variety of tasks, which are selected by the fader mode buttons. In addition to volume, drive and character, you can use them to control input gain, low cut, high cut, and three send levels. There’s a new layer mode which lets you edit multiple tracks, for example by moving the low cut on all your guitar tracks at once.
The controller offers a single encoder for panning. It also controls a spatialization tool, which Softube says can help you situate each sound in the mix. Furthermore, the Console 1 Fader controller has solo and mute buttons, as well as basic DAW transport controls.
Price and availability
Softube Console 1 Fader is now available at Thomann* for 599 Euros. The software runs on macOS 10.12 and up and Windows 7 and up (64 bit). An iLok account is required.
