Softube Drawmer 1976: A Multiband Saturator for your DAW
A plugin version of Drawmer's multiband saturation processor.
With the Softube Drawmer 1976 Three Band Saturator, the hardware has been carefully recreated through a longstanding official collaboration.
The cooperation between Softube and Drawmer has lasted over 10 years, yielding the 1973 Multiband Compressor and the S73 Intelligent Master Processor. The new 1976 joins this roster, bringing the versatile hardware processor to your DAW.
Softube Drawmer 1976
The original 1976 hardware unit is a three-band rackmount processor, with a simple but effective interface that makes it flexible for working with a wide range of instruments in your mixes. The key elements of its design are the independent bands with mute and bypass, the two variable crossovers (70 – 1500 Hz and 800 – 15,000 Hz), and the individual stereo width controls on each band.
In the new Softube plugin version, all features have been maintained, and there are a few key additions that make the 1976 plugin easier to use than ever. For starters, there are low-cut and high-cut filters to set the precise frequency range you want to process, and each of the three bands has metering to show you how much saturation is happening.
Another useful meter that has been added is the global mid-side meter. To assign bands to the mid or side channels, you can set the stereo width controls all the way left or right, respectively. Meanwhile, there are now digital and analogue width modes, so you can work with more precision or more character and warmth if you choose.

To use the 1976 in parallel, there is a mix control, and the handy mono check function lets you get an idea of how your processing will translate in mono, which is important, especially for final mix and mastering applications. Overall, the 1976 plugin is a useful tool for pro engineers to add warmth and texture to individual channels or entire mixes and it’s also fully Console 1 compatible.
