Softube Layers: Add Depth to Your Sounds Instantly
An versatile widening processor for mixing.
The new Softube Layers plug-in is an advanced doubling and widening processor with multiband compression, de-essing, and octave effects.
Instead of spending ages tweaking individual channels, Layers allows you to do it all from a single plug-in with straightforward precise controls for each doubled part.
Softube Layers
With Layers, you have the power to create up to 10 doubled parts and place each one around the stereo field, using the interface that resembles a protractor. Aside from panning, this placement also adds depth as you move away from the front of the mix.
Besides the central correlation meter and main wet/dry mix control, there are four main sections with access to parameters:
- Input: Gives you access to individual layer, de-esser, and compressor settings.
- Layer Variations: Allows you to adjust the pitch and delay time between layers.
- Widening: Provides 6 different widening algorithms, including a Slow Mod program based on the classic Roland SDD-320
- Output: Allows you to set your frequency range with filters, adjust the global stereo width, and use the mono bass function.
The beauty of Layers is the level of control you have over each individual part. For instance, you can create a rich, cascading vocal effect by incrementally increasing the modulation amount for each layer you add.
In pop music production, this is great for making your choruses stand out from your verses, with a wider stereo image that adds to the overall impact. Meanwhile, with the inclusion of de-essing and multiband compression, you can add depth to a wide range of sounds and still keep the result tight and cohesive.
Overall, Layers is a very useful effect for producers and mix engineers that can produce exciting creative results and save you time with its intuitive workflow.

Awful demo on misuse of these kind of tools. Still bought it anyway because of the potential if you actually know what you are doing.
Yeah, but is it vintage? If this kind of effect were any good, they would have had it in the stone age – erm, in the sixties.
