Following on from their excellent recreations of a Minimoog, Juno 106 and SH-101, Swedish developer Softube tackle the definitive analogue poly with their Model 80 Five Voice synthesizer.
Softube have built a solid reputation in their 20 year existence. This includes their work in the field of superb software emulations of classic synths from the past. The Model 80 Five Voice synthesizer sets out to continue that trend with an attempt to model the classic analogue polysynth, Sequential’s Prophet 5.
Inspired by a Legend
The Prophet 5, which Softube go to great lengths not to mention anywhere in their blurb, is still regarded as one of the most iconic synthesizers of all time. It heralded an era where analogue synths could instantly recall factory and user presets at the touch of a button. It also sounded exquisite. Such is the love for this instrument, Sequential released the Rev.4 just a few short years ago to huge acclaim.

All the Good Stuff and More!
And now Softube have precisely modelled the sound, interface and performance of this revered synthesizer. As well as the original presets, they have enhanced their version with features such as velocity and aftertouch modulation, voice pan spread and a quantised filter cutoff.

And as with all Softube synth plugins, you also get corresponding modules for use in their superb Softube Modular platform. Now you can mix and match numerous modules from the Softube range like never before!

Softube synth plugins are unquestionably good, in this writer’s opinion. Their Model 72 is lauded as the closest you will get to an R.A. Minimoog outside of the real thing. If such quality and attention to detail are replicated here, Model 80 is set to join its stablemates as a definitive emulation.
Softube Model 80 will launch at $99 USD until June 2nd. After that, it reverts to $159 USD.
