Solar Guitars adds eight new cool models to its line-up
Ola Englund has been a busy boy indeed
Solar Guitars is Ola Englund’s foray into owning a guitar company. And it is has many guitarists’ attention, given Ola’s reputation. His guitar designs look contemporary and well made, and seem to be built to high standards. Now the company has added eight new models to the line-up for 2018.
Ola Englund built his reputation on YouTube and is known for playing in The Haunted, Six Feet Under and Feared. The new models include left-handed models, so it appears that he wants to cater for everyone. I think that’s great and should be more common practice for guitar manufacturers.
New guitars
There are three new ‘A’-Series guitar models, an ‘S’ design with an Evertune bridge and two new ‘E’ or Explorer-style models in the latest release. The Solar Guitars A1.6ET looks great with the matte white finish and maple neck combo, with very clean and great lines for a modern guitar.
It has Duncan Solar pickups, maple fingerboard with 24 super-jumbo frets and Luminlay ‘glow in the dark’ side dots and the Solar logo at the 12th fret. The Evertune F Type bridge is affixed to an alder body and the headstock has Grover 18:1 ratio machine heads keeping everything in tune.
RRP – EUR 999
Solar Guitars A1.6ETC
The A1.6ETC comes with a stealthy look in a Carbon Black Matte finish. It looks like the evil twin to the A1.6ET. It is the same specification just with a lovely dark ebony fretboard and that cool, blacked out matt finish.
RRP – EUR 999
Solar Guitars A1.6ETTBLM LH
This is a lovely deep matte blue finished left-handed guitar with a swamp ash body. It comes with all the same specifications of the previous two guitars but with a more premium look courtesy of the swamp ash wood and the translucent paint job.
RRP – EUR 1049
Solar Guitars A2.7 – Trans Blood Red Matte
The A2.7 is a 7-string model finished in a fetching Trans Blood Red matte applied on a swamp ash body. This model has a fixed bridge rather than an Evertune model, probably to help keep the price down for this model. The rest of the specifications are on par with the previous models listed though: Duncan Solar pickups, Luminlay side dots, Grover 18:1 tuners and so on.
RRP – EUR 799 also available left-handed as the A2.7TBRM LH
Solar Guitars E2.6 – Trans Blood Red Matte
This time we have an Explorer-style guitar with tune-o-matic style bridge and tailpiece affixed to a swamp ash body. A nice dark ebony fretboard is loaded with 22 Super Jumbo frets and the price includes a deluxe gig bag, which is handy as Explorer shapes are a bugger to find cases for!
RRP – EUR 799
Solar Guitars E1.6ETC – Carbon Black Matte
This one is the same shape and specifications as before, just with an alder body and the more expensive Evertune bridge. So the price is slightly higher.
RRP – EUR 1099 inc deluxe gig bag
Solar Guitars S1.6ETC – Carbon Black Matte
The S1.6ETC has a bound ebony fingerboard/body and is Solar Guitars premium S-type model in the range. It has the same specifications for hardware as the models above, as well as a set-thru neck design and the Evertune F-Style bridge.
RRP – EUR 1099
Swedish Metal!
These look like great guitars. Ola Englund has put lots of great features into some very good-looking modern guitars. He’s managed to keep prices down while including great hardware. I’ve a lot of respect for him for all his hard work. If you haven’t done so already, make sure you check out Ola’s new video on the Boss HM-2 pedal and why it is intrinsic to the Swedish Death Metal sound.
RRP – EUR 749- EUR 1099
