Solar Guitars’ GC2.6 Killertone Jason Frankhouser signature has a luxurious Silver Burst finish and is based on a modern Singlecut body style. As this is Jason’s third signature model with Solar, he wanted to offer something affordable yet with killer specifications, and this model appears to do precisely that.

“This is a budget-friendly model – I really wanted to have something that more people could grab, but it’s not very budget in tone. It sounds KILLER.” Jason Frankhouser

It follows a similar design to his previous Black Winter model from 2020.

Construction

The mahogany body has a three-piece thin-C profile mahogany neck and a 24.75-inch rosewood fretboard. The neck has 24 super jumbo frets, white side dots with Jason’s signature inlay at the twelfth fret, and a reverse headstock shape. It also has a smooth sanded finish on the back of the neck that should feel great when playing.

Killerbucker

Frankhouser worked closely with Solar on the bridge pickup, the Killerbucker, and voiced it specifically to his taste. This is paired with a Solar Modern alnico-5 in the neck position. The controls for the pickups consist of two volume knobs, each with a push/pull to split each pickup, and a three-way pickup selector switch.

“I worked with Solar on this pickup… we voiced it very very killer, it’s tight and chuggy. Check out the demo and you will hear what I am talking about.”

Silver Burst

All the hardware is black and consists of a set of Solar tuners and a TOM bridge with a string-thru-body design for added sustain. The Silver Burst Gloss finish complements it perfectly, and I love this guitar’s overall style and look.

Verdict

There is a lot of guitar here, and if you need a tight-sounding, modern hardtail instrument, this is precisely what you want. At well under $1000, it packs a lot of value into one instrument. The Texan guitarist has put his name on a great-looking guitar with some well-thought-out specifications, so it stands out nicely.

MSRP – EUR 899/USD 799
