sonible wants to reinvent digital reverbs with smart: reverb
Known for an innovative approach to music technology, sonible is taking another shot at combining plug-ins and artificial intelligence with the introduction of smart: reverb. The upcoming plug-in doesn’t rely on presets, nor convolution (impulse responses) like most digital reverbs do. Rather, smart: reverb generates reverbs based on the audio material’s characteristics.
smart: reverb – source-adaptive reverb
Source-adaptive reverbs like this are a rare breed. The only one that comes to mind is Adaptiverb by Zynaptiq. There, the reverbation consists only of harmonics generated from the processed signal. This way, the reverb fits rather nicely in the mix to provide additional depth and dimension. If sonible makes its new reverb more affordable and wallet-friendly than Adaptiverb (EUR 259), it could have a winner on its hands!
There is little information about smart: verb beside the initial announcement and adaptive concept. However, we do get to see what the plug-in looks like. It features a Reverb Matrix to blend between four different reverb characters, basic Pre-Delay & Reverb Time controls, filters and envelopes (Decay, Spread, Density). The GUI definitely has that sonible futuristic look to it, but it looks like it could be operated quite intuitively. Throw in some AI-aided parameter adjustment and it will surely be a breeze!
