SoundBrut DRVA Overdrive + Boost Mk.II: 12 drive flavours on tap
New Swedish boutique drive and boost pedal
SoundBrut has just released the new DRVA Overdrive + Boost Mk II pedal, which is designed to provide a plethora of drive tones. We wrote about the original version last year and now it has been revamped, seeing the addition of a handy boost section.
SoundBrut DRVA Overdrive + Boost Mk.II
Designed and built in Norrköping, Sweden, the DRVA Overdrive + Boost Mk.II is based around a drive section derived from a NE5534 op-amp for hard clipping and a MOSFET variable boost section. The DR or Drive section comprises controls for volume, gain and a treble-cut knob, while the VA or Varitone Boost section is made up of a custom tone stack which is controlled by a boost knob. There’s also a 6-way tone selector and 2-position EQ depth selector switch.
Varitone Boost
This boost has +25 dB gain available, giving you plenty of ways to sculpt that bump in output as well, potentially making this a very versatile gain/drive pedal indeed.
If you’re thinking, “Great, another drive pedal”, there might be more going on here than you might think. You can coax out at least 12 different voices from that Varitone EQ section on the boost side. I think that could make this unit great value for money.
Less is more?
I was impressed last year with the original DRVA pedal, which had a whopping 18 variations available. This new MK II appears to have refined the EQ Tone Depth down to two options, rather than the three of the original.
The company states on its website that the DRVA MK II can go from a subtle harmonic boost to a full on fuzz overdrive tone. Now add in those 12 voicings and that gives you plenty of options to play with. I would highly recommend you take a listen to the video demo below to get a taste of what is on offer from this versatile boost/drive pedal.
RRP – EUR 190
