This Week’s Sounds and Presets
Lustral Vol.1 for Arturia Polybrute 12 & 6 by Scott McAuley Sounds
One day I might stop banging on about the Arturia Polybrute 12, but that day has yet to arrive. All the while it reigns supreme as the greatest modern analogue polyphonic synthesizer of all time, in my very humble opinion, I shall be singing its praises.
One thing that it lacks, however, is dedicated third-party presets. Now, this hasn’t been too much of an issue because of the numerous Polybrute 6 banks that exist, which are 100% compatible with the 12, and to which the 12 adds even more with its FullTouch keyboard.
So I got quite excited when I got wind of Scott McAuley making some sounds with his newly acquired Arturia Polybrute 12. And I wasn’t disappointed when Scott sent me the bank to test last week! Scott is a superb sound designer and he’s brought his considerable wealth of talents to bear on this library.
From thumping basses to sharp leads, lush pads and textures and some amazing sequenced patches, there are 100 totally inspiring sounds that make full use of the Arturia Polybrute 12’s expressive features, such as morphing, the ribbon and, of course, that amazing keyboard. There are even a few patches that make fantastic use of the Polybrute’s ability to “play” the oscillators via one of the LFO’s.
Put simply, if you own an Arturia Polybrute 12 or 6, this bank is an absolute essential. Buy. It. NOW. Volume 2 is already in the works!
You can grab Lustral Vol.1 for Polybrute right now for just £22.50 in their Black Friday Sale, after which it will go up to £29.99.
Exponents for Cherry Audio P-10 by James Dyson
Cherry Audio’s P-10 only dropped last week, and it’s already causing a stir! Dan Goldstein, Cherry Audio’s head honcho, told me last week that it had been the second-biggest launch in their history! It has received numerous plaudits from across the spectrum, and deservedly so.
With almost every release, James Dyson, one of Cherry Audio’s sound design team, whips up a supplementary bank of sounds to add to the often considerable amount of presets that come with it. And P-10 is no exception.
I’ve featured James here before and, like Scott McAuley, he’s rapidly building a reputation as a leading purveyor of patches and presets. This pack contains 100 presets that show off every aspect of P-10 and are hugely inspirational.
Exponents for Cherry Audio is available for just £9.99, direct from Cherry Audio.
Legend HZ Expressive Suite by Expressive E
When Synapse Audio decided to enhance its already popular ‘Legend’ plugin, they didn’t mess around making it something so much more than the original. Not only that, they recruited the real-life legend that is Hans Zimmer into the bargain!
They doubled the number of oscillators from 3 to 6 and gave it 12-voice polyphony, MPE and a 914-style fixed filter bank! Hans is well-known as someone who happily lives in both the software and hardware world, so he’s not too easy to impress.
Now, following on from their previous work with Phase Plant and Hive 2, Expressive E, the makers of Osmose, have created an Expressive Suite for the Legend HZ. These 300 patches use MPE at their heart to deliver some truly amazing expressive sounds.
Whilst the suggested hardware controller for these is their Osmose, Expressive E is happy to tell you that these sounds will work with any MPE-capable controller. You can buy the pack of 300 sounds on its own, or if you’re not a Legend HZ owner, you can buy a nicely discounted bundle. Everyone’s a winner!
The Legend HZ Expressive Suite can be had with Legend HZ for just $/€169. Existing Legend HZ owners can buy the pack on special offer for just $/€39.99 before it goes back up to $/€59.99. Alternatively, you can buy the sound bank in 3 individual packs of 100 sounds for just $/€17.99 each, rising to $/€29.99 when the offer ends.
More Free Sound Palettes for Sonicware Ambient Ø
Hot on the heels of last week’s news about four free sound palettes for Sonicware’s excellent drone unit, the LIVEN Ambient Ø, their founder and leading light, Dr. Yu Endo, has decided to expand on these with six more free palettes.
They’re called palettes because they contain a collection of four specific sounds assigned to the Drone, Pad, Atmos and Noise sections, but these are merely the building blocks which you can shape using Ambient Ø’s very clever sound design features.
Dr, Yu is promising more of these and they’re easily installed into your unit via SysEx.
