Sounds and Presets: Expand Your Behringer UB-Xa
Great Patch Banks For Your Behringer UB-Xa
You’ve got your Behringer UB-Xa and are revelling in the low-cost analogue goodness. Here are some great banks to broaden your palette!
Dividing opinions, as they are wont to do, you can’t get away from the fact that the Behringer UB-Xa has delivered a polyphonic analogue synth for the masses. Coming in at under €1300, the bang for buck factor on this synth is pretty impressive.
Sixteen voices, polyphonic aftertouch, the ability to “age” the circuits and some nice wooden end cheeks make the UB-Xa something that is hard to ignore. And as these units are selling like hot cakes it wasn’t long before the incredible sound design community was churning out new content for it.
Here’s a selection of some of the best sounding that I found. You are very welcome!
Table of Contents
Limbic Bits Dusk for Behringer UB-Xa
We’ve covered the work of Limbic Bits before and it is always of the highest quality. With this pack, they have steered clear of what many others are doing and come up with a far more contemporary sound set covering Techno, Dub and Ambient styles, to name but a few.
Given the UB-Xa’s obvious inspiration, many sound designers are focusing on creating patches for it that resemble the time that the original inspiration existed, namely the 1980s. Nothing wrong with that, in my very humble opinion. However, it’s great to see someone trying to push this synth outside of those clichés.
Dusk includes 64 brand new sounds with pads being the dominant style. There are also bass, leads, FX and Dub chords, as well as several sequences. All of these are installed into Bank A so make sure you’ve backed your existing presets up.
The ‘Atrophy’ setting on the UB-Xa is akin to the ‘Vintage’ setting on some other synths. It recreates certain characteristics of ageing analogue circuitry and all of Dusk’s patches carry a number that indicates the best Atrophy setting for that particular patch.

Behringer UB-Xa Synth King Producer Pack
Hailing from Germany, Particular Sound have a vast body of work that is contained within many big name instruments, as well as producing sound packs to buy. Companies like Yamaha, Waldorf and Native Instruments are all on their resumé so they clearly know great patches!
The Synth King Producer Pack for the UB-Xa contains 64 presets that definitely play to the heritage of the instrument that inspired its creation. Created by The Synth King and sold by Particular Sound, this bank literally reeks of the 1980s and plays to the UB-Xa’s strengths.
And The Synth King ought to know their way around the UB-Xa as they were part of the beta testing team for it! In fact, many of the factory presets were made by The Synth King. But don’t worry, all of these sounds are new and not included in the factory banks.

Sonorous Vol.1 & 2 for Behringer UB-Xa by Scott McAuley Sounds
If you don’t know the name Scott McAuley when it comes to independent sound designers, you ought to. Consider this an introduction! Scott is very prolific and has created sound banks for synths such as the Moog One, Oberheim’s OB-X8 and TEO-5, Sequential’s Prophet 5 Rev.4, the U.D.O. Super 6, Groove Synthesis’ 3rd Wave and now the UB-Xa.
Each volume packs in 50 patches a piece and covers pads, arps, leads, basses, strings and keys. One thing that struck me about Scott’s patches are the very classy and professional sound he manages to get. There really is some great work going on here.
It is worth pointing out that in Scott’s demos, he often uses the free Valhalla Supermassive reverb, and he provides the reverb patch for it with his sounds. Volume 1 and 2 are both available individually for just £18.99 but you can save yourself some money and buy them both as a bundle for just £29.99! That’s a mere 29 pence per patch!
