This week we have some of the first 3rd party preset packs for the new Moog Muse, plus some spooky Halloween sounds for KORG NAUTILUS and KRONOS users!

It takes a while for 3rd party preset packs to emerge whilst manufacturers get their new toys out to market and end users get to grips with their modus operandi. So it’s nice to see a new pack of presets for one of this year’s analogue behemoths, the Moog Muse.

We’ve also got some sounds for the witching hour for those of you with a KORG NAUTILUS and/or a KRONOS. GForce Software has launched a new collection of Artist Preset packs and there’s a freebie from Spitfire Audio’s LABS service.

The Classic Collection for Moog Muse by Pull-Push

The Moog Muse certainly had a somewhat turbulent time coming to market. Leaks, some deliberate, some not so much, secret parties in Berlin and appearances at the Superbowl all preceded its eventual release into the wild, to be welcomed by most as one of the best polysynths on the market today.

In the three months since, we’ve seen little activity from 3rd party sound designers so it is nice to see Pascal Girod, aka Push-Pull, release their Classic Collection for Moog Muse, containing 32 new patches for Moog’s new flagship poly.

Everything you hear in the demo below is directly from the Muse, using only its onboard Diffusion Delay for effects, and it sounds absolutely stunning! People have been pitting the Muse against Arturia’s Polybrute 12 for the last few months, but I maintain they are two very different synths.

The Push-Pull collection reinforces my opinion that the Moog Muse is a much more “traditional” analogue poly with its sound firmly rooted in classic analogue poly world, dare I say the 1980s! This is definitely NOT a bad thing, and this sound bank just makes me want one even more!

You can pick up Push-Pull’s Classic Collection for Moog Muse for a measly $10 from their Gumroad store.

KRS13 Halloween – 2024 for KORG NAUTILUS/KRONOS by KORG

Darkness falls across the land, the midnight hour is close at hand and I better stop right there before the lawyers start knocking at my door. Anyway, Halloween fast approaches and KORG have jumped on the Pumpkin Spice bandwagon with a set of patches inspired by Samhain!

KORG has decided to focus on the darker side of Halloween (there’s a light side??) and deliver 32 programs, 15 Combis, 8 wave sequences and 5 drum track patterns to give you the hee-bee-jee-bees! Whilst there are some obviously spooky sounds included here, there’s plenty of mileage to be had beyond October 31st.

Check out the demos below and if they take your fancy, and your NAUTILUS or KRONOS is being employed at the end of the month, KORG will happily give you these sounds for just $10.

GForce Software Artist Preset Packs

It’s been a great year so far for GForce Software. Their collaboration with Oberheim is delivering some of the finest software recreations out there and they’ve completed the update project on all of their legacy instruments, bringing them bang up to date.

Now they’re turning their hand to preset packs beyond those we already have for the like of M-Tron Pro. GForce has invited some popular sound sculptors to create banks for some of their other synths, such as Minimonsta 2.

The pick of the bunch for me is Airwaves for the GForce Oberheim-X by Reverb Machine. The man behind one of the most interesting and informative music websites today is Dan Carr, and his OB-X collection is a delightful blend of gritty ambience and enchanting instability. Check out the demo below.

Another favourite of mine is Coalesence for Minimonsta 2 by Sandunes. It’s a varied and incredibly useable set of sounds for what is a fantastic take on the Minimoog paradigm. Other packs include an M-Tron Pro IV pack by Venus Theory and more Minimonsta 2 fun from Tontario. All packs cost £14.99 and can be purchased directly from GForce Software’s website.

Spitfire Audio LABS – Intimate Grand Piano

Bringing up the rear this week is another free sample library in the absolutely essential LABS collection, entitled Intimate Grand Piano. It is still quite impressive that a company of Spitfire’s stature sees fit to give away top-notch sample libraries for free.

Now, admittedly, they have updated their LABS model to include a paid tier, but they retained all the free stuff and continue to add to it. Intimate Grand Piano is the latest such addition and features a sampled Steinway Model A grand, recorded in the… wait for it… intimate acoustics of Castlesound Studios, hence the name.

There may only be seven presets included here, but they do cover a decent range of styles, ranging from bright to dark, cinematic to reverberant. You just can’t argue with a very well sampled piano that costs you diddley squat and sounds this good, topped off by Spitfire’s brilliantly simple user interface.

Download Intimate Grand Piano now, using the LABS application and you may as well grab the rest because they’re flippin’ good too!

Sadly, Spitfire hasn’t provided embeddable videos or audio files to demonstrate this instrument, so check out this demo by Elektronick Musick…
