Modern phasing technology with a retro look: PhaseMistress
The PhaseMistress plugin from Soundtoys is designed to bring the characteristic sound of analogue phasers from the 1970s and 1980s into the digital world, with modern tweaking options. The phase stages can be freely set from two to up to 24 (!), and you can adjust intensity, resonance and timbre to suit your own tastes.
A programmable LFO allows you to create your own modulation curves, while Rhythm Mode creates simple to complex patterns and reacts directly to the audio material. In envelope mode, PhaseMistress reacts dynamically to the audio material, creating organic and expressive effects by adjusting the effects as needed. This versatility, coupled with a Style menu that recreates legendary phaser sounds such as Bi-Phase, Super Phaser and Small Stone, makes PhaseMistress an indispensable tool for your DAW.
Creative sound modulation – classic phaser sounds redefined
These capabilities make PhaseMistress easy to use as a standard phaser, but it can also be used for extreme sound shaping in experimental situations. Sound designers such as Richard Divine appreciate its versatility in percussive soundscapes, as the effects can be varied dynamically and rhythmically. Soundtoys PhaseMistress is available now and until 15 November 2024 as a free download from the manufacturer’s website – instead of $/€99.00. All you need to do is create an account to unlock the download. The plugin runs on Windows 7 or higher and macOS 10.12 or higher (including Apple Silicon support) as VST3, VST, AAX and AU in 64-bit. You will need a free iLok account (or dongle) for authorisation. The package includes a set of presets and a PDF user manual which can be downloaded from the website.
