Spitfire Audio will set free its Labs sample libraries, Kontakt no longer required
Here’s something big for all you freebie plug-in collectors! Spitfire Audio announced all of its Labs sample libraries will be going free! Not just that, but the developer is coding custom plug-ins so you will be able to use these sounds, popular among producers and composers, outside Native Instruments Kontakt.
Spitfire is handing the UI design to Ustwo, the company that made the Hans Zimmer Strings instrument, the well-known & beautifully drawn up Monument Valley mobile game, and the meditation app Headspace. Trust us when we say the Labs plug-in will look the part!
The company says it will keep expanding the Labs line-up with new additions to make an “infinite series”. The library already features instruments like Frozen Strings and Felt Piano, so this is the kind of stuff you should expect to hear once everything is done.
The developer isn’t giving away any time frame for release, but there’s a sign up option available. You will be let know once the Labs plug-ins are ready to fly!
We really like how Spitfire is going all-in on this, going as far as to code a custom plug-in so you don’t need to purchase Kontakt to use these libraries. The developer could have just as easily released the .nki files and been just as generous.
