Spotify Greenroom becomes Spotify Live, with added live audio features
Spotify announces the rebrand of the Spotify Greenroom app this week. From here on out, it’ll be known as Spotify Live. This transformation means live audio features from the auxiliary app will now be available in the main Spotify app. You can tune in to the platform with the new live stream feature from either app.
What’s new in Spotify Live?
Only selected original live audio content from top audio creators will be available on Spotify. Meanwhile, independent creators can live stream through the app. Listeners can use either platform to access live audio content, however, the features are slightly different. The newly rebranded app has exclusive features like chat and the ability to join the host ‘onstage‘ during streams.
Looking back, Greenroom was originally launched in 2021 as a competitor to Clubhouse. Furthermore, the response hardly met expectations, so it’s unsurprising that Bloomberg spoke of the rebrand last month. Live audio spaces became quite a flooded area of the market, with Twitter Spaces and Facebook’s Live Audio Rooms offering similar solutions.
To boost the launch of this new Spotify development, we will see a series of live audio streams. This kicks off today with a live edition of DJ Akedemiks’ Off the Record podcast, followed by shows from Tana Mongeau, Alex Cooper, and the Swedish House Mafia album release event.
