Minimal Audio SQUASH: Free OTT Compressor
Minimal Audio’s freebie for Black Friday this year is SQUASH, an OTT-style compressor plugin that couldn’t be any easier to use. When you’re in the middle of producing the next banger, fiddling with complicated controls can quickly kill the creative flow. So they’ve done away with all the tricky stuff and replaced it with a giant X/Y pad. All you need to do is find the right balance between Depth and Tone and adjust the Dry/Wet mix, and SQUASH will do the rest for you. Deceptively simple, isn’t it?
Under the hood, however, is a full-blown OTT-style upward/downward compressor with four bands of dual compression. Minimal Audio says that the algorithm has been tuned for “today’s styles”, so you can expect the punchy sound you know and love – only with much simpler controls.
Minimal Audio SQUASH is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
Bedroom Producers Blog Bassaturator: Free Bass Booster Plugin
Got a great bassline that could use a little help? This new freebie from Bedroom Producers Blog is just what you need. Bassaturator combines Pultec-style push-pull equalization with three types of saturation to make your bass sounds stand out.
The Sub section on the left looks very simple, but it’s got a lot going on. All you need to do is select a frequency and turn up the Boost knob. However, instead of simply making that frequency louder, Bassaturator also removes some of the surrounding frequencies, which helps focus the sound and tidy up the mix.
But that’s not all. Bassaturator also offers three types of saturation (Dirt, Body, Tape), all of which can be used simultaneously. There’s also a lowpass filter for cleaning up the sound. An all-in-one bass booster with simple controls – who could say no to that?
Bassaturator is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
Sample Science Organic Padscapes
Organic Padscapes by Sample Science is full of eerie, otherworldly pads and textures that still have a natural, organic quality to them. Perfect for film scoring and creative sound design!
All in all, this ROMpler includes 12 padscapes that you can modify using a filter, amp envelope, preamp simulation, and LFO. The plugin also includes four built-in effects for further sound shaping (distortion, delay, chorus, and reverb).
Organic Padscapes is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, and AU formats.
