One of the interesting new dialogue features is Adaptive Background Attenuation (ABA). To ensure the best possible speech intelligibility in film and TV, ABA analyzes the dialogue signal and automatically reduces the louder parts of your mix by an adjustable level in dB. In addition, the process doesn’t mean you forgo any flexibility, as you can still make further adjustments you your mix afterwards.
Another new dialogue-focussed workflow feature is the new speech-to-text function, which is an AI-powered process that allows you to transcribe dialogue channels into ADR cycle markers. The process uses machine learning for the recognition and accurate transcription of speech, so markers can be created from the soundtrack or you can create new markers surrounding your transcribed dialogue. This is certainly going to save you some time.
If you’re a game sound designer, you’ll be thrilled to know that you can now use Audiokinetic Wwise to preview effects in Nuendo without exporting the audio. From the game environment, you can trigger a segment, and the Nuendo will play the audio. This allows you to make adjustments before you do your final rendering and transfer of elements into Wwise. What’s more, Nuendo’s event selection allows you to swap in different sounds while gameplay is running, which is a useful addition.
Another wonderful tool for sound designers is the new “modulators” plugin set. This provides a new creative outlet for controlling almost any parameter to animate sounds and build unique effects. In addition, there are a range of new editing features, including Event Volume Curves, Range Tool Improvements, and Audio Segment Automatic Detection, all designed to speed up your workflow and give you more control over your project.
