Strymon says goodbye to the OB.1 Compressor & Clean Boost
Strymon is officially saying goodbye to its first effect pedal, the OB.1 Compressor & Clean Boost, citing problems in sourcing the required parts. This pedal was the analogue product that helped put them on the map.
Goodbye old friend
The first effect pedal that was released under the Strymon name, way back in July 2009, was the OB.1 Compressor & Clean Boost. Launched with bright orange casing, this pedal offered a transparent analogue optical compression and clean boost. The circuit relied on Light Dependent Resistors, the optical element within OB.1. Strymon says these components are no longer available, meaning that it’s no longer feasible to offer this product. So it’s goodbye to a classic effect. I am pretty sure you will now see used prices start to soar, as collectors and players alike try to obtain one.
All gone?
There are no longer any OB.1 pedals available in the Strymon online store. There were a few B-Stock units here.* but the last pedals seem to have sold out. How much would you pay for one of these?
