Studiologic SL mk2: Top-Class MIDI Keyboards With Built-In Audio Interface
Step up your game with Studiologic SL mk2, the latest MIDI controllers from the Fatar-associated keyboard manufacturer.
Studiologic SL mk2
If you’re serious about playing, you probably know the name Studiologic. The sister company of Fatar, Studiologic makes top-quality MIDI controller keyboards. The company’s latest line, announced at NAMM today, is the newest iteration of its SL series, with three new controllers. The Studiologic SL mk2 lineup includes SL73, SL88, and SL88GT.
SL73 and SL88
SL73 and SL88 (the number of keys is indicated by the model number) both feature Fatar RP/110 keybeds. These are high-end, weighted keyboards with hammer action that promise feather-light portability and robust playability along with reduced bounce and aftertouch.
SL88GT
If you prefer something closer to the keybed of an acoustic piano, check out the SL88GT. It features the TP/400 Wood, Studiologic/Fatar’s top keybed. “Designed to deliver an unparalleled touch,” the press materials say, “it offers a playing experience remarkably close to that of an acoustic grand piano. From the precise hammer action to the timeless beauty of wooden keys, every detail is crafted to inspire and elevate your performance.”
Beyond the Bed
More than just nice keyboards, the SL mk2 series includes the Studiologic UX Logic control panel, first introduced with the Numa X Piano. The panel features a color screen plus encoders and DAW transport controls. It also allows for 100 programs, 24 program groups, and four programmable zones.
Also inside is SL Link, the company’s protocol for connecting to compliant apps. You can get started with the bundled Numa Player 2, Studiologic’s own music software, which is optimized for the new controllers.
Each of the SL mk2 controllers also boasts a built-in audio interface, with dual audio outputs and a headphone jack, plus USB-C connectivity. It also offers DIN MIDI in and out plus pedal jacks.
Interestingly, the controllers don’t offer pitch bend or modulation wheels but rather a pair of sticks.
Pricing and Availability
SL mk2 series controllers are MIDI 2.0-equipped and will be available in March of this year. Pricing to be announced at a later date.
