Suhr Kiko Loureiro Signature Shiba Drive Re|Loaded: Megadeth leads?
Megadeth guitarist's new Signature drive pedal
The new Suhr Kiko Loureiro Signature Shiba Drive Re|Loaded pedal is the Megadeth guitarist’s new signature drive pedal. It’s based on the Shiba Drive, yet sports a few minor tweaks and a unique signature graphic.
Suhr Shiba
The original Suhr Shiba Drive pedal is already a great ‘cleanish’ overdrive pedal that won’t overly colour your guitar’s tone. The introduction of a signature version is a little surprising. According to Kiko, he has been using the original Shiba Drive to boost his amp and to optimise harmonics. The new “Kiko” version is said to be much clearer sounding and better suited for boosting. It can, allegedly, better deal with the bass portion of the output signal, making it less susceptible to altering the sonic characteristics adversely.
Mega?
For such as simple overdrive, the original Shiba Drive was never exactly cheap. Yet it manages to avoid colouring the your guitar tone, and has gained many fans as a result. I am a little surprised at this new version, but as I haven’t tried the ‘Kiko’ model I cannot comment on the actual tonal differences between this model and the originals.
I do own a few Suhr pedals. They are amazingly well put together and sound very good (I really love my Koko Boost and Riot pedals). I have no doubt that this new pedal will be as well made as the rest of the Suhr line-up.
You do get a laser-etched case that makes this Kiko Loureiro Signature model stand out from the regular Shiba Drive. Even if you cannot hear the difference, at least you will know you bought the right one!
