Superbooth 2017: Erica Synths Black Dual VCF
Slightly hidden away in the darkness of the Erica Synths modular rack at Superbooth was a cool new module. Simply called the Black Dual VCF it’s a single module featuring two identical multi-mode filters running in series or parallel.
Black Dual VCF
It has the usual high, low and band pass filter options but all three are available simultaneously via their own output. The out is summed either with the filters in series or parallel. So you can have two different filters being applied to same source material, or different via the two inputs. You can also link the two together and control them via one set of knobs – great for stereo applications. If you only connect a single input then the filters are automatically connected in series.
There’s CV control over cut-off and resonance and there’s an input level control.
The other interesting feature is the row of LEDs. It’s actually a spectrometer giving you an indication of the frequency content. I am loving the way that moves in response to the filter being modulated. That’s a fabulous idea.
There are only a few details on the website at the moment and it doesn’t have its own page in the Erica Synths shop so I don’t have pricing or availability information yet. But you’ll find it on their main page if you want a closer look.
