Abstract Data introduced their first oscillator module. They are calling it the ADE-40 Shaping VCO. Let’s have a look.

ADE-40 Shaping VCO

It’s an all analogue VCO generating your three standard sine, triangle and ramp waveforms. But the “Shaping” part comes in with the built-in voltage controlled waveshaper. It brings in a sort of PWM metallic sound that can go from subtle to manic through manipulation of the Depth and Width controls. You also get your standard linear FM and sync inputs. The design is always solid and straightforward and they maintain the look across the range. The waveshaping adds some nice movement to the sound although I wish there was more than a single output.

Should be out in a couple of months.

They were also showing a couple of forthcoming modules which they hope to have out by the end of the year.

ADE-21 Multimode VCF

An update on their previous filter model (ADE-20) the ADE-21 has a feedback circuit built in with frequency and depth controls.

ADE-34 Logic Boss 2

An update to the ADE-31 Logic Boss. It offers 3 blocks of logic with 2 inputs, the third block being a cascade of the previous two. You get a lot of outputs from your two inputs. All CV controllable and messable with.

Intuition

All Abstract Data modules manage to offer a lot of playable depth in simple, unfussy interfaces. Although many of the concepts and features are complex you’ll get great stuff out just by plugging stuff in – that sort of intuitiveness really speaks to me.
