Expressive E and Applied Acoustics Systems have got together to produce Imagine, a new software instrument that digs deep inside the body of real instruments.

Imagine

Sometimes those 3D renders look so fabulous that you really wish it was a piece of hardware but Imagine is a software instrument that hopes to provide a playfully multidimensional experience within an imaginary acoustic landscape. So it’s physical modelling, right? Yes, I think so. Within Imagine are held hundreds of instruments modelled and folded into layers. Each preset then combines two layers to produce unprecedented acoustic timbres.

The interesting parts of those instruments are available for tweaking. Parameters such as Shine, Position, Impact and Mute are available on the front panel along with Colour, Resonance, Grains, Shape, Rate and Amount. All these things are ripe for modulation which is where the multi-stage envelopes come in and they’ve built in an intelligent modulation system that ensures curves and ranges are continuously scaled, while presenting you with Macros to simplify the controls down to the stuff that really matters.

I’m not entirely sure what all that means but it sounds pretty convincing.

Expressive E would get more uptick on their software if they would provide demo/trials.
