We knew it was coming, the 3-tier version of the Moog Sound Studio which features the Mother-32, DFAM and Subharmonicon in one awesome package.

When Moog released the first two Moog Sound Studios back in March we immediately asked why they didn’t do a 3-tier version that had all three of the Moog 60HP semi-modular synths in it? The little mixer and power unit that came with the 2-tier version (Mother-32 & DFAM or DFAM & Subharmonicon) even had room for a third unit and a 3-tier bracket already existed. Well, here we have the new expanded 3-tier Moog Sound Studio that does exactly that and it’s completely beautiful.

In true Moog style the new Moog Sound Studio is a wonderful thing to behold. It’s classic, classy and deep in both aesthetic and functionality. The Mother-32 is the benchmark of semi-modular monosynths, the DFAM is an adventure in percussive sounds and the Subharmonicon is an experiment in weirdness. The combination brings together some fabulous scope for music-making and sound exploration.

But it’s not just a box with 3 products inside, the Moog Sound Studio has been thoroughly thought out and executed with an awesome amount of style and creativity – it makes you want to inhabit the world of Moog. In the box, you get a unique little mixer and power distributor that means you only need one power plug for the whole stack and you can mix the outputs together to a single output. You get a bunch of branded patch cables with a cable rack that fits onto the back of the setup. There’s also a synth exploration card game, creative learning tools, a patch manual, artwork and all sorts of bits and pieces. Moog has added a dust cover that the other 2-tier systems didn’t get which is a very useful addition.

I did a review of the Mother-32 & DFAM version and all the extras do make a worthwhile difference particularly if you are less than a complete synth head.

Moog will be demonstrating this new Sound Studio at Superbooth in booth Z120 and while it contains no new synths I think it’s a brilliant package that could turn your life around, inspire creativity and make you more appealing to your desired sexual companion. You’re probably going to have to change all your furniture to match.

The new bundle costs around the $2,000 mark and is available now at retailers like Thomann (affiliate link).
