Superbooth 22: Leaf Audio has a soundbox, mults, drones and cases
Leaf Audio has a bunch of new stuff to show at Superbooth including Microphonic Soundbox Mk3, Microphonic Playground, mULTIple, Dronesynth and some Eurorack cases.
Microphonic Soundbox Mk3
The Microphonic Soundbox is an acoustic wooden box for experimental adventures. It has contact mics inside that pick up the various noises generated by playing with the springs, kalimba, twangy bits and rubber bands. Leaf Audio is working on the Mk3 which will introduce a new mounting mechanism for the springs, clipping LEDs for the preamps, an integrated envelope follower with multiple modes, new power management and (at last!) a DC power input.
The Microphonic Soundbox Mk3 should be available in the autumn for €279.
Microphonic Playground
This is simply a box with a contact microphone into which you can throw anything that might make a sound. It has lots of threaded holes for mounting things on the sides or top of the box. You could plug it into the Soundbox or you can run it standalone. Leaf Audio will be released expander kits for it like a bass kalimba but it’s the kind of box that gives you a starting point into electroacoustic experimentation.
It should be available in the summer for €85.
mULTIple
Leaf Audio likes to think of these as the ultimate multiple for your Eurorack system and the last one you’ll ever need. That seems unlikely but I’m going with it. It’s a high-precision active mult that can be configured as 1-to-8 or two lots of 1-to-4. You can link both halves to another one somewhere else in your case to share and distribute signals. Aha, so it won’t be your last one as you’ll need at least two!
The mults have LEDs to show the polarity of your signal with a choice of colours. In July, they should be available as a DIY kit in 1U or 3U for €75.
Leaf Audio also has an MLT 2HP multiple as a simple 1-to-6 or two lots of 1-to-3. It will make for a good first DIY project for about €15.
Dronesynth
It’s a four oscillator stereo drone synthesizer in a nice wooden box. It has two channels with two square waves each. They can be synced and balanced and then filtered through a kind of Tilt-EQ before going through a modulatable VCA.
Comes as a kit and should be available in the summer.
Knapplåda
This is a DIY kit for a Eurorack case and power supply. It has all the parts you need to build a 104HP case and is a brilliant way to start your modular journey. Apparently, it comes with a cover to protect your modules and is deep enough to accommodate the row fully patched. I’ve not seen any photos of this one yet.
It should be available from July.
Flex-Pro
This is an expandable Eurorack case system. It starts off as a single row of 104HP but can be stacked at all sorts of angles. The power supply is designed to pass through each row. Of course, you have to build it all yourself.
The Flex-Pro is currently at the prototype stage and I’m pretty sure we saw it at Superbooth last September.
