Superbooth 23: Oberheim OB-X8 Desktop
Oberheim finally deliver the hotly anticipated OB-X8 Desktop, a table top version of their highly acclaimed return to the world of hardware synthesis.
Ever since Oberheim released their OB-X8 to the world, many people were instantly crying out for a tabletop version. This request was fuelled by the desktop version of the Prophet 5. Sequential had been instrumental (pun intended) in bringing Tom Oberheim’s brand back to market and naturally, people wanted a cut down version. A desktop version would, in theory, be cheaper as well as smaller.
Clear the Desks!
So it is no surprise to learn that today, Oberheim have announced the release of the OB-X8 Desktop.
Aside from the lack of keyboard and pitch/mod paddles, the desktop version is identical in every way to its keyboard forebear. This means you still get an all-analog signal path with discrete VCOs, VCAs, and filters. The Arpeggiator and Keyboard Split & Double functionality are also retained. All you need to do is hook up your favourite controller and you too can experience the amazing Oberheim sound for somewhat less of your head earned cash.
Save Space and Money
Talking of which, the desktop shaves up to around £1,200 off the price of the keyboard version, so it is quite the saving. If you want to try the new version out, there will be examples of the OB-X8 Desktop and keyboard versions at Oberheim’s stand at Superbooth 23. I guess the wait for a new Matrix 12 or Xpander goes on a little longer…
More information
Oberheim’s OB-X8 Desktop should begin to ship in early autumn and retails for £3,599.

3599 GBP synth with a 20 cent display. The outside looks like a poorman synth. I want lights and stuff.
