Supro Blues King 8: The perfect small recording amp?
A one watt all tube tone machine
Supro Blues King 8
The Supro Blues King 8 is the little brother of Blues King 12 model. Common to both models is a Class-A all-tube signal path. In the preamp stage you get a 12AX7 valve. The small 8 Series 12AU7 triode in the final power stage provides 1 Watt of pure American guitar sound.
Don’t be fooled by the small format of this little combo. Where other manufacturers only attach a single volume knob that you need to turn up for distortion, the Blues King 8 still comes with a separate volume, tone, master and even a footswitchable boost circuit. Neat. The built-in line-out sits in front of the power amplifier.
Custom Supro BK8 speaker
Supro says the 8″ driver was specifically designed for this amp to capture the sound of field coil speakers from the beginning of the electrical age. With the right mic in front of this amp, you should be able to come up with some tasty sounds.
RRP – USD 299

One response to “Supro Blues King 8: The perfect small recording amp?”
Sorry, but if the video is anything to go off, it sounds like a cheap distortion pedal to my ears. The clean tone was not impressive at all. Seems like they put more into using cliche marketing words than anything. “Pure American guitar sound”…What in the hell does that mean? Chuck Berry? Van Halen? Hendrix? “Designed to capture the sound of field-coil speakers”….okay what attributes? There’s a lot of differences between field-coil speakers. Some sound great and some sound awful.
